Some of the more musical Table View Lions hosted a Sing-A-Long for the elderly at Nazareth House in Gardens, Cape Town on Tuesday, 26th November. Lions Freda Dodd, Thys van Eck and Friend of Lions, Sandy McNamara sang Christmas Carols and songs from bygone days and while being accompanied by Felicity van Eck on the piano-accordion.
The residents clearly enjoyed every minute! Especially poignant was the harmonizing of ‘Silent Night’ by the residents, the sisters and the staff.
Lion Liz Hucks baked delectable cupcakes, with a sprinkle of holly and goodwill and Lion Rocky Wright from Postnet very kindly printed the song sheets. Concluding a wonderful afternoon everyone held hands and sang “Auld Lang Syne” or as one dear, sweet lady mentioned: “Hold Hands Lang Syne”.
The Table View Lions undertake the job of selling tickets at the Killarney Gates for Stock Car races. We have a great deal of fun while raising funds for our various projects.
Lions in Pictures:
Every year the Lions Club of Table View seek various ways of raising funds for those less fortunate than the rest of us in our immediate community – the hearing and sight impaired are a big focus area and this year in particular, the club is drawn their attention to those in need of sight / vision repair.
Imagine spending your day in complete darkness or at best in a heavy haze where you cannot make anything but the odd shape – you and I take so much for granted – these folk hang onto every single thread of hope that they grasp at.
With this in mind, 100% of the funds that we raise from the Gala Evening of the comedy “ It runs in the Family”, staged at the Milnerton Playhouse will go to addressing this need of sight that is so desperately desired in our community.
The Milnerton Playhouse has graciously offered us this evening as a fundraiser and we appeal to you, the Cape Town folk who always give so generously, to support our cause and book your seat for the 27th November 2013 – the show is preceded by a cheese and wine.
We anticipate a great occasion.
In a joint venture with Table View Shopping Centre, Table View Lions Club will be collecting good quality toys and stationery to distribute to needy organisations to give some cheer at Christmas.
From 24 November to 15 December, the Centre will have clearly marked boxes for the public to drop off their donations.
On Sunday, 1st December from 10am to 2pm, members of Table View Lions Club will be positioned in Pick ‘n Pay’s small parking area (by Engen/TyreMart) to collect donations from the public.
Stationery items (such as scissors, colouring books, calculators, pens, rules, erasers, writing paper, basic art materials, etc) will be given to Tygerberg Hospital School (the Centre’s charity) and the toys will be distributed by the club members to various organisations as far as Atlantis.
We look forward to the generous support of our community once again.
On 29th October, Lion Elizabeth Houston hosted an “All Thai’d Up” luncheon to raise funds for Cancer Awareness. The meal consisted of spicy sweetcorn, deep fried eggs with onion & palm sugar sauce, Tom Yom Soup (spicy & sour prawn), marinated beef with salad and a fresh fruit platter.
Sunflower bandannas were used as place mats, floral paper serviettes folded to hold cutlery and “jammer lappies” in different shades of pink.
Great fellowship, delicious food, inspiring company of great friends, colourful setting and celebrating life to the fullest with lots of clinking glasses [hic hic!!].
A wonderful afternoon enjoyed by all.
We all know of someone suffering from Cancer or knew someone who succumbed to the disease.
