ARBOUR DAY: Planting trees and vegetables at a school

The Table View Lions have a wonderful relationship with the Formula One Hotels who have funded several of our activities where we give back to the community.  Our newest collaboration was for Arbour Day where we went to the West Riding School in Table View.

This school opened its doors in 2008 for 55 pupils from families facing financial hardships.  This year they are educating to 737 pupils.

General 033When contacted, Mr Nic du Toit (Vice-Principal) advised that the school would love to plant vegetables, as the learners come from very needy backgrounds. Grade 2’s and 3’s are learning about seeds in their curriculum and there would be 70 learners.   In return for their labour they will be rewarded with hot dogs and cold drinks.
General 040It was an absolute pleasure and very rewarding to see the excitement of the learners planting their own vegetables, knowing that they will reap the rewards upon harvest.
